Westfield Corporation announced
plans for a major development effort in Century City.
The plans include the demolition of both 1930 Century Park
West and 1801 Avenue of the Stars.
A parking garage would
replace 1930 Century Park West while a new 40-story, 260
unit residential condominium building would replace 1801
Avenue of the Stars. Parking for all three properties
would be merged and operations integrated.

The plans call for the
renovation of the balance of the Century City mall, the
addition of a second story on all remaining one-story retail
space and a complete redesign of the mall's exterior on
Santa Monica Boulevard. Westfield also plans to
include more open space within the mall.
The new development plans
come as the Westside faces numerous new large development
projects. Currently, JMB is planning two
47 story residential towers at Constellation and Avenue of
the Stars, Related is planning a 40 story residential tower
to replace the St. Regis hotel, The government is planning a
new 1,000,000 square foot FBI headquarters at Wilshire &
Veteran and a mixed-use project has
been announced for the Robinsons/May property at Wilshire &
Santa Monica in Beverly Hills.
Westfield will be seeking to
merge the three parcels (Century City mall, 1930 Century
Park West and 1801 Avenue of the Stars) into one large
parcel. Details on how this will impact development
rights as defined within the Century City North Specific
Plan are still unclear.
The Westside has faced almost
non-stop large development with Constellation Place/MGM,
2000 Avenue of the Stars, Westfield Phase 1 and the Santa
Monica Boulevard Transit Parkway Project.
The Tract 7260 board will
provide more information as it becomes available. |
